Course Conditions and Maintenance Activities

Typical of the courses designed by Dick Phelps, the Creekview Golf course has been conceived to be user-friendly and environmentally friendly. It is our goal to continue this philosophy and maintain these two characteristics.

In recent months many golf courses have shown the stress of harsher than usual weather conditions. We want to explain to you what conditions brought us where we are, and what we are doing to bring back the course to where we all want it to be.

As mentioned elsewhere, the 18 Creekview greens as well as the two practice greens are sodded with Champions™ Bermuda, while the fairways and the driving range have 419 Bermuda grass.

Greens Condition    Good to Very Good and Improving (July 30, 2010)

We have had about a dozen golfers tell us to revise the last condition report; they think the greens are great.

As of today, the greens are running very good, at about 8.5-9.0.

All the greens are running smoothly. We are cutting at 125 and verticutting about every two weeks, which is keeping the Champions from mounding.  You will still find bare patches on the outer edges on most greens, but since our greens are oversized compared to most courses in the area, these very small patches should have no effect on your play. These patches are due to the fact that several years ago the greens were extended out three to four feet; however, the soil in the extended area was not properly removed and replaced with a quality turf mix.

Next week we will start sprigging these patches and they should be gone in about two weeks.

Current Maintenance Activities

This week we are cleaning bunkers (never ending) and killing weeds.

We want to welcome Ray Esparsa as a new member of our team. He has over 17 years experience in golf course greens management and will be heading up all course maintenance activities.
